Black Beauty Eggplant
Black Beauty eggplant is a classic heirloom variety (Solanum melongena) introduced in 1902, widely regarded as the standard for large-fruited eggplants and a favorite among home gardeners for over a century.
It produces large, teardrop-shaped or oblong fruits with smooth, glossy skin that's a deep purplish-black (often appearing nearly black). The fruits typically measure 5–8 inches long, weigh 1–3 pounds each, and have a slightly ribbed, bell-like form that's broader at the blossom end.
At the farm, we love to grow these beauties and make our favorite Eggplant Parmesan and Carponata recipes which are available on this site under recipes.
