Cherokee Purple Tomatoes
The Cherokee Purple tomato is a popular heirloom beefsteak variety known for its striking appearance and exceptional flavor.
The variety traces back to the late 19th century (pre-1890) in Tennessee, reportedly passed down from the Cherokee people. It was rediscovered and named in the 1990s by tomato expert Craig LeHoullier, who received seeds from a Tennessee grower claiming a century-old family tradition linked to Cherokee origins. While the exact Native American connection is based on folklore, it's now a widely grown favorite among gardeners.

Our family has a strong Cherokee lineage. Part of the Wolf Clan, we can trace family roots back to a "first family" which we are very proud. My husbands grandmother was 100% Cherokee, and his mother was 50% Cherokee.
